New book of CBCI explains Church’s concept of human dignity
Feb.12, 2014:Cardinal Oswald Gracias, the president of Catholic Bishops Conference
of India ,CBCI, has released a book that explains the Catholic Church’s social teachings
on human dignity. The book Titled “Human Dignity in Catholic Social Thought” was released
on Saturday. It is edited by Fr. Charles Irudayam, Secretary of the CBCI Office for
Justice, Peace and Development. The book released during the CBCI plenary assembly,
in Palai in southern India’s Kerala State, explains the Church’s teachings on human
dignity.It also highlights the patristic teaching on human dignity, besides broadly
discussing the concept in the teachings of different popes beginning with Pope Leo
XIII till the present Pope Francis. The first copies of the book were handed to
Bishop Soosai Manickam of Sivagangai diocese and to Bishop Gerald Almeida, an Episcopal
member of the CBCI Office for Justice, Peace and Development. The Bangalore-based
