Jan. 08, 2014: Organisers of a mammoth Telugu play on the life of Mother Teresa, which
was first staged in Hyderabad, south India last month, plan some 100 shows across
Indian cities this year. Amruthavani Communication Center’s director Fr. U. Balashowry,
who has filmmaking experience in the US, said unlike in America where opera too is
very popular, cinema tends to be the only form of entertainment in India, that is
what prompted him to come up with the musical that also carries a message. The
two-hour play initially costing 40 lakh rupees (about $ 65 thousand ) shows the life
of a young Yugoslavian girl joining a Kolkata Convent, and then setting up her own
Missionaries of Charity Congregation for the poor. The play shows how she overcomes
her constant struggles and obstacles. The musical will tour Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore
and a few other Indian cities. Archbishop Thumma Bala of Hyderabad and Chairman
of Amruthavani after watching the show said it was very touching. Source: Ucan
