Papal Nuncio spends Christmas with ‘Yolanda’ survivors
Manila, 28 December 2013: On Christmas Day, Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, apostolic nuncio
to the Philippines, spent the day in the province of Leyte to show the "personal solidarity"
of Pope Francis with the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck in November and forced
four million people from their homes.
Tecson Lim, administrator of Tacloban
City, told ucanews.com that the nuncio's visit "was so heartwarming and uplifting
that it almost able to compensate for the sad Christmas that many Taclobanons are
experiencing."
Fr. Amadeo Alvero, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Palo,
said Pinto's visit "is indeed an expression of the solidarity and the love of Pope
Francis to the local church."
"Pope Francis loves us that he wants us to know
with the visit of his ambassador that we are not alone. The Universal Church does
not leave us alone but journeys with us this way towards rebuilding our society,"
Alvero told ucanews.com.Source: UCAN
