Bangladesh Catholics campaign for victims of Typhoon Haiyan
November 26, 2013 - Catholics in Bangladesh are launching a fundraising campaign
to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The initiative is the idea
of Archbishop Patrick D' Rozario of Dhaka, who is President of the Catholic Bishops
Conference of Bangladesh. He has invited all the parishes, educational institutions,
religious congregations, organizations and the faithful in the country to offer every
possible help to the Filipino people. On December 1st, he said, "we will pray for
the victims and their families. On the same day we will collect money for them, and
deliver it to the Bishops' Conference of the Philippines." The typhoon Haiyan made
landfall on the Asian nation on November 8 last. The central part of the Philippine
archipelago was the hardest hit. According to the latest estimates - still provisional
- of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ( NDRRMC ) , there
were 5,613 victims, while 1,602 people are still missing. (Source: AsiaNews)
