Pope Francis on the 450th anniversary of the Council of
Trent
Vatican City, 23 Nov 2013: ‘It is appropriate to recall the doctrine of the Church
of the greater availability and more attentive study of the most bountiful teachings
of the Council, wrote Pope Francis to Cardinal Water Brandmuller, Pope’s special envoy
to the 450th anniversary of the closing of the Ecumenical Council of Trent.
The anniversary celebration is scheduled to take place in the Duomo of Trent, Italy
on 1st December 2013.
Not without reason, observed the Pope, the
Church has such great respect for the decrees of the Council, especially related to
the most serious questions that sprung up at that time. Pope specially mentions the
particularly outstanding faith of the Catholic Fathers of the Council. Guidance and
assistance of the Holy Spirit was felt throughout the Council which brought out the
sacred deposit of Christian doctrine to man.
This same spirit, writes Pope
Francis, still renews and helps practice the teachings of the Church of Today. It
is the same subject that ran down the ages, grows up and is increased but always remains
the same.
In the letter dated 19 November and released on Saturday, Pope Francis
specially greeted and imparted his Apostolic blessings to the Metropolitan Archbishop
of Trent, bishops, priests, religious men and women, and lay faithful on the occasion
of the celebration.Source: VR Sedoc
