Pope highlights 'International Year of Family Farming'
Vatican City, 20 Nov 2013: Pope Francis at the close of his General Audience on Wednesday
in St. Peter’s square highlighted the "International Year of Family Farming", which
the United Nations will inaugurate on November 22. The initiative aims to become a
tool to stimulate active policies for sustainable development of agricultural systems
based farmer families, communal units, indigenous groups, cooperatives and fishing
families.
Reflecting on Family, Pope Francis said: Even in the work, the family
is a model of brotherhood to live an experience of unity and solidarity among all
its members, with a greater sensitivity towards those most in need of care or help,
blocking the bud any social conflict.
Commenting on the initiative, the Pontiff
said that it is a ‘timely initiative’ and expressed his satisfaction, adding that
"it highlights the countless benefits that family farming contributes to economic
growth, to social solidarity, to respect for creation and to the moral fibre of the
entire community”. Source: VR Sedoc
