Every year over 1 million babies die because they are born too soon
(Vatican Radio) Each year 15 million babies are born too soon and more than 1 million
of them will die before their first birthday. Experts says premature birth is the
leading cause of newborn death each year and November the 17th has been
designated World Prematurity Day to raise awareness about pre-term births and how
they can be prevented. Dr Edward McCaid is the Chief Medical Officer for the March
of Dimes organization, a U.S. charity that seeks to raise global awareness about the
problem of premature births. He spoke to Susy Hodges.
