28 October, 2013 - Jesus, who prayed to the Father for his apostles and the people,
continues to intercede for us even today, showing to the Father the wounds of His
body, the price he paid for our justification, Pope Francis said on Monday. Celebrating
Mass at the Casa Santa Marta residence in the Vatican, the Pope reflected on the Gospel
of Luke where Jesus prayed the entire night before choosing his apostles. Explaining
the person of Jesus, the Holy Father said Jesus is not a spirit, He is a person, a
man with flesh like us, but glorious. Jesus has the wounds on his hands, feet and
his side, and when he prays to the Father He shows Him the price of our justification
and prays for us, as if saying, “But Father, let this be not in vain.” “Jesus is
the first to pray and, like our brother and man like us, intercedes for us.” As our
intercessor, he prays to God with us and in front of us, the Pope said, adding, his
has uttered this great prayer of his sacrifice, of his life to save us for our justification.
The Pope urged all to pray with Jesus, saying, “Lord, You are the intercessor. You
saved me, and justified me. But now, pay for me.” The Holy Father invited all to
entrust him our problems and our life, so that He carries them to the Father. (Source:
