(Vatican Radio) October 23rd is the feast of St John Capistrano: a Franciscan
priest who preached to soldiers defending Christendom from invading Ottoman forces
and became the patron of military chaplains. US military chaplains are gathered in
Rome this week for courses in professional development and spiritual growth in the
context of the Year of Faith. Vatican Radio spoke with Fr. James E. O’Neal, a major
in the US Army currently serving as garrison chaplain at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. “We
talk about different issues that are important to us,” he said, “particularly, as
