October 07, 2013 - King Letsie III of Lesotho and his wife Queen Masenate paid a
visit to Pope Francis in the Vatican on Monday. The King later held talks with Vatican
Secretary of State,Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone and Vatican Secretary for Relations
with States, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti. The Vatican said the cordial talks appreciated
the good relations between the Holy See and the landlocked enclave in South Africa,
with special reference to the importance of religious freedom, to favour positive
collaboration between the State and the Church. In this regard, both sides commended
the priority the King and the government give to healthcare and education, and the
contribution of the Catholic Church in the fields of charity, justice and peace.
The talks also touched upon ethical and social issues of Lesotho, such as the family,
and the regions political and economic situation. (Source: Vatican)
