September 27, 2013 - A 3-day international event to mark the Day for Catechists kicked
off on Thursday in the Vatican. The initiative, marking the Year of Faith, is being
organized by the Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelization. Some 1600 catechists,
pastoral workers, teachers and experts from all over the world are participating in
an international conference, September 26-28, on the theme “The Catechist, witness
of the faith.” The meeting offers a reflection on the first part of the Catechism
of the Catholic Church and is aimed at officials and all those engaged in catechesis
and evangelization. The Day for Catechists also includes a pilgrimage of catechists
to the Tomb of St. Peter. Pope Francis was to address the conference participants
Friday evening, and on Sunday he will conclude the event with a Mass for them in St.
Peter’s Square. (Source: Vatican)
