Pope tweets on Church’s mission of witnessing to Christ
September 23, 2013 - Pope Francis on Monday posted a tweet underscoring the Church’s
main mission of witnessing to its founder. “The Church has no other meaning and
finality than to witness to Jesus. May we not forget this,” the Pope wrote on his
micro-blogging Twitter account, @Pontifex. The papal account in 9 languages has nearly
9 million followers, with Spanish-speakers accounting for over 3.7 million and English
speakers just crossing the 3 million mark. Also on Monday, the Vatican Secretariat
of State . posted its own tweet: “Victims of contemporary slavery become a mere
commodity in the market of consumerism.” The tweet on the Twitter account @Terza
Loggia was posted by Archbishop Silbano Tomasi, the Holy See’s Permanent Observer
to the United Nations and Specialized Organizations in Geneva, and to the World Trade
Organization.
