New documentary explores Synod on the New Evangelization
(Vatican Radio) 7 October will mark the one-year anniversary of the opening of the
13th Ordinary Synod on the New Evangelization. In the lead up to the anniversary,
a documentary about the gathering will air on Canada’s Salt and Light Network this
Sunday, giving viewers an exclusive look at what happens inside a Synod of bishops.
Titled “Go and Teach: Inside the Synod on the New Evangelization,” the documentary
explores the Catholic Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel within the context
of modern society. Driving the project was Salt and Light CEO Fr Thomas Rosica,
who served as the English language attaché during the Synod. Fr Rosica, along with
Salt and Light producers Sebastian Gomes and Charles Le Bourgeois, were granted special
permission to attend the Synod and document the experience. “This is the first
time ever something like this has been done on a Synod of Bishops,” Fr Rosica told
Vatican Radio. He also said it was important that the documentary shows “what was
happening in the world at the same time, because Synod’s don’t just drop out of Heaven;
things are happening in the world.” Upon watching the documentary, he continued,
“one of the first things people will see will be the spirit of fraternity that exists
in the Synod. We show the spirit that goes on at the coffee breaks, in the corridors:
the excitement of the different participants of the Synod Fathers, of the appointed
delegates, of the experts. We have a wide range of people that speak.” “We also
have some very acute commentary on what happened at that particular Synod,” he said. Fr
Rosica went on to say that the documentary concludes by addressing some of the major
events that have happened since the close of the Synod. “Providentially,” he said,
“this Synod was preparing for something completely new.” Listen to Ann Schneible’s
