Today’s (Sept. 18) Melodies & Memories program on The Byrds, touches on The Old Town
School of Folk Music. The Byrds’ front man and guitarist, Roger McGuinn, was one of
the institution’s first students, enrolling there in 1957 when it opened in the Old
Town neighbourhood of Chicago in a rundown storefront building.
Founded by
Folk musicians Frank Hamilton and Win Stracke, the school is dedicated to making music
accessible to everyone. The current school in Chicago's Lincoln Park district is housed
in a larger building with a 400 seat concert hall. Please join me at 2:30 pm for more
information!
