(Vatican Radio) Brazil's Foreign Minister has resigned over a diplomatic tangle concerning
a Bolivian opposition politician who was holed up in one their embassies in Bolivia.
Senator Roger Pinto, who is accused of 14 crimes including corruption, fled to the
Brazilian Embassy in Bolivia's Capitol La Paz, and claimed asylum. But after 450 days
within its confines, he was suffering from clinical depression, so a Brazilian diplomat
got him into a diplomatically protected car, and took him out of the country. Therefore
Brazil's Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota has resigned. As for Bolivian Senator
Roger Pinto, he's now turned up in Brazil's Capitol Brasilia, so the diplomatic row
is far from over.
