Goa Govt. forms committee to review security of religious places.
14 Aug.2013: In India, the Goa Government has constituted a state-level security committee
to review the security plan of all religious places.The move comes following a direction
from the Ministry of Home Affairs – MHA. The committee to be headed by the Director
General of Police (DGP), will review the existing security deployment, type of security,
access control system, lighting arrangement, fire fighting equipment, etc.The committee
will prepare a detailed report of each temple, church, mosque and place of religious
importance and submit it to the MHA. The move comes following the recent attack on
the Bodh Gaya temple in Bihar. Fr. Savio Barreto, Rector of the Bom Jesus Basilica
in Goa said that security at specific churches has been taken seriously by the State
Government. “We have been asking the police department to evaluate the threat perception
at churches and to accordingly make adequate security arrangements” he added. Source:
