Filipino Cardinal Tagle sets date for New Evangelization summit

14 Aug.2013 : Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle - Archbishop of Manila, Philippines, has invited bishops in Asian countries where Catholics are a minority, to join a conference to share their experiences of practicing their faith in difficult environments.
Cardinal Tagle has set the date for the Conference on New Evangelization in the Philippines for October 16-18. "We want to know from them, how it is to be a Church in a country, where the Christian presence is less than one percent," he said. The prelate said it would be good for Filipinos to hear stories from other countries to inspire them to become missionaries. "We Filipinos should draw inspiration from their stories, so that we will strive to be missionaries in places - such as in Asia that have yet to hear the Good News," Cardinal Tagle added.
Most of the workshops and sessions are to be conducted in English, so that participants from overseas can also echo the seminars in their countries. The Conference on New Evangelization is Manila Archdiocese's contribution to the celebration of the Year of Faith. Dubbed a "Festival of Faith," the October conference, will be held at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Some 6,000 people are scheduled to attend.
