(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Wednesday accepted the resignations of the Archbishop
of Ljubljana, Anton Stres, and of the Archbishop of Maribor, Marjan Turnsek.
Their
resignations are in conformity with can. 401 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law.
The
Apostolic Nunciature in Slovenia explained that the decision was caused by “the grave
economic situation in which the Archdiocese of Maribor finds itself, and in the hope
that their resignations may contribute to the renewal of the Church in Slovenia”.
To
ensure the regular administration of the two Dioceses, the Pope has appointed Bishop
Andrej Glavan of Novo Mesto as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Lubljana,
and Bishop Stanislav Lipovsek of Celje as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese
of Maribor.
