Mexico: arrests in drug war assassination

(Vatican Radio) Three men have been arrested in connection to the assassination of a Vice Admiral in Mexico by drug cartel gunmen. The officer’s wife and their driver were wounded in the attack.

Mexico's Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam announced the arrests. He said the men, who concede they're members of the Knights Templar drug cartel, have admitted they were in one of two vehicles involved in the ambush of Vice Admiral Carlos Miguel Salazar, in the Western State of Michocan. The unarmoured SUV was confronted by a protest march, diverted on to a side road, and ambushed by two vehicles. The Vice Admiral and his bodyguard were killed.

Last week Mexican security forces shot dead 20 Knights Templar gunmen in fire-fights, while two Federal Police Officers were also killed.

Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto is vowing to bring everyone responsible for this attack to justice.
