New Archbishop for Hobart, Australia

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday accepted the resignation of Archbishop Adrian L. Doyle from the Archdiocesan See of Hobart, Australia. Archbishop Doyle has reached the canonical age of retirement. The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Julian C. Porteous to succeed Archbishop Doyle. Until now, Archbishop-elect Porteous has been an auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Sydney, Australia. He was born in Sydney in 1949 and ordained in 1974 as a priest of the Sydney archdiocese. He served as a pastor of two parishes before being appointed Rector of Sydney’s Good Shepherd seminary, a role in which he served for eight years, from 2000-2008.
