(Vatican Radio) Former President Nelson Mandela is responding to treatment for a recurring
lung infection. The 94 year-old Nobel peace laureate, icon of resistance to Apartheid,
and symbol of a reconciled nation was hospitalized on Saturday morning. South Africa’s
incumbent president, Jacob Zuma, expressed relief at the improvement in Mandela’s
response. Zuma is also calling on people everywhere to continue praying for Mandela.
The current hospital stay is Mandela’s fourth since December. He received visits on
Wednesday a daughter and two granddaughters. Listen:
