World envionment day: Tackling climate change

(Vatican Radio) June 5th is World Environment Day which is being marked Wednesday all around the globe. The theme for this year is Think.Eat.Save. According to the UN 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year.
At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger.

Also on World Environment day the UK based Catholic Development agency Progressio is launching ClimatePro - a new initiative designed to tackle climate change in a fair and effective way.
“ClimatePro gives people “the opportunity to do two key things”, says Campaigns and Communications manager Daniel Hale.
“The first is to reduce their contribution to climate change, and the second thing we are asking people to do is to support communities overseas to adapt to the effects of climate change.”
In return for this collaboration Progresso will give UK partners updates on its adaptation projects and advice on reducing their contribution to climate change.
Speaking to Vatican Radio Daniel Hale also stresses the importance of the church’s voice in the Environment debate saying, “the Catholic Church is in a good position to offer some leadership”. Listen to Philippa Hitchen’s interview with Daniel Hale RealAudioMP3
