Arrests made in murder case of Malcolm X’s grandson
(Vatican Radio) Two men have been arrested and three more are being sought in connection
to the murder of Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of civil rights activist Malcolm X.
An
Official in Mexico City's Prosecutor's Office says the two men charged with robbery
and the murder of Shabazz work in the Palace Bar in the downtown district of Garibaldi
where a dispute started over a bar bill equivalent to twelve hundred US dollars. Police
are still searching for three other workers from there.
Shabazz, aged twenty-eight,
was taken to the hospital, but died from massive blunt force trauma.
A Mexican
union activist, who was with Shabazz when a fight erupted, escaped. He said when he
returned he found his friend badly beaten outside the premises.
A twelve year
old Malcolm Shabazz was convicted of setting a fire in the apartment of his grandmother
Betty Shabazz, who was the widow of Malcolm X. She died of severe burns. Young Malcolm
spent four years in detention.
As an adult he tried to improve his life. He
was in the process of writing a book when he was murdered.
