(Vatican Radio) Two lucky children from the Diocese of Cloyne in the South of Ireland
are in Rome to take part in a Confirmation ceremony in Saint Peter’s Square on Sunday
presided over by Pope Francis. Emily Mulcahy and Edmond Roche are both altar servers
in the town of Fermoy and received the invitation as part of the Year of Faith celebrations.
Speaking
to Lydia O’Kane about the ceremony Communication’s Director for the Diocese of Cloyne,
Father Jim Killeen said the children very excited.
“They’re absolutely over
the moon, I met both of them, they were down here with the Bishop who gave them a
special blessing to speed them on their way and wish them “Bon Voyage”. They and all
their families are absolutely thrilled, they can’t believe it’s happening.
Fr
Killeen added that the fact that the two children are being confirmed by the Pope
will help the children in the Diocese of Cloyne, especially those being confirmed,
appreciate the sacrament even more.
44 people are being confirmed by the Pope
