Mexican, US officials meet to discuss reform

(Vatican Radio) US Attorney General Eric Holder has had talks with Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam, about judicial and police reform.

A veteran serving Mexican politician is stressing that visiting US Attorney General Eric Holder must realize Mexico needs technology, rather than military hardware to combat its on-going eight year Drug War. Senator Manuel Camacho Solis, who in his time has been Mayor of Mexico City, Foreign Minister, and a Peace Commissioner for the region of Chiapas – the scene of the Zapatista guerrilla uprising – stresses high tech answers to the Drug War are needed. “What we need in Mexico is not more tanks and more airplanes, which in the end create more violence. But what we need is good laboratories of forensics, all this experience that the U.S. has, but adapted to the Mexican Constitution and to Mexican laws.

President Barack Obama visits Mexico City on May 2nd and 3rd for talks with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
