(Vatican Radio) Canadian authorities have foiled an al-Qaeda plot to attack a passenger
train from Toronto to New York. Two suspects, both in their 30s, were arrested Monday
in Montreal and Toronto. The arrests were announced by Chief Superintendent Jennifer
Strachan of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who named the men as Chiheb Esseghaier,
30, of Montreal, and Raed Jaser, 35, of Toronto. Canada's Minister for Public Safety,
Vic Teows, said, "[Monday]'s arrests demonstrate that terrorism continues to be a
real threat to Canada," and, "Canada will not tolerate terrorist activity and we will
not be used as a safe haven for terrorists or those who support terrorist activities."
Neither of the arrested men is a Canadian citizen. They are scheduled to appear in
court Tuesday. Listen:
