Pope’s condolences to all affected by explosion in Texas
Vatican City, 20 April 2013: Pope Francis expressed his deep condolences to all affected
by the explosion in Texas, USA. In a message sent on Thursday to bishop Joe S. Vasquez,
Bishop of Austin, the Pontiff conveyed his sadness at the news of the destruction
caused by the explosion in the West, Texas. Pope Francis asked the Bishop to convey
his heartfelt condolences to the Civil Authorities and the afflicted families. The
message signed by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican’s Secretary of State, said that
Pope Francis prays for the eternal rest of the victims and implores God's blessings
of consolation and peace upon Those who mourn, and all who generously aid in the continuing
work of relief.
Earlier on Thursday morning Pope Francis in his twitter message
asked all to join him in praying for the victims of the explosion in Texas and their
families. A massive explosion on Wednesday night at a fertilizer plant on the
edge of the small Texas town of West killed at least 15 people, wounded more than
170, levelled dozens of homes and prompted authorities to evacuate half their community
of 2,800.
The blast shook houses 50 miles away and measured as a 2.1-magnitude
seismic event, according to the United States Geological Survey.
