Pope appoints Bishop of Warangal


Vatican City, 13 April 2013: Pope Francis has appointed on 13 April Fr. Udumala Bala Show Reddy, to be the Bishop of the Diocese of Warangal in India. Prior to this appointment Fr. Reddy Show has been the Deputy Secretary-General of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) in Bangalore.

Fr. Udumala Bala Show Reddy, was born June 18, 1954, in Ghanpur, Gudur, Diocese of Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. He holds a Diploma in Telugu and a degree in Arts from the University Usmania. He was ordained a priest on 20 February 1979 for the Diocese of Warangal.
He received his Doctorate in Moral Theology from all' Alphonsianum, Rome in 1994. Since then he had been a Professor of Moral Theology at St. John's Regional Seminary, Hyderabad till 1997 when he was appointed Rector of the same Seminary. Since 2006, he has been working as Vice-Secretary of the C.C.B.I. in Bangalore.

The Diocese of Warangal, has been vacant since March 12, 2011, following the transfer of Bishop Thumma Bala to the Metropolitan See of Hyderabad.

The Diocese of Warangal (1952), suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, has an area of ​​27,702 square kilometers and a population of 7,724,845 inhabitants, of whom 66,385 are Catholics. There are 55 parishes served by 138 priests (86 diocesan and 52 religious), 28 religious brothers, 526 nuns and 25 seminarians.
