(Vatican Radio) A Mexican expert on cross Border relations with the United States
says Congress there MUST re-impose the assault weapons ban, which lapsed in 2004.
Professor Jose Luis Valdes Ugalde, who's a member of the Center of Investigations
for North America, at Mexico's National Autonomous University UNAM, says illegal gun
running from US Border States is arming Mexican Drug cartels to the teeth. He urges
the assault weapons ban has got to be re-imposed by the US Congress, for everyone's
sake, and for goodness’ sake: “It’s really ridiculous and absurd to see people, 18
or 19 or 20 years old or any family at all, having weapons, assault weapons in their
house. It isn’t needed. If it’s possible, then you can go, you want to go with the
second amendment, then have guns But that's enough.”
More than 70,000 people
have already died in Mexico's eight year Drug War. Many have been killed by US made
weapons, illegally smuggled into Mexico.
