Cardinal Toppo says Pope Francis’ ways in line with spirit of Church
March 18, 2013 - The election of Pope Francis has been the work of the Holy Spirit
who best knows the needs of the Church and the new simple ways of the pontiff is in
keeping with the spirit of the Church. Indian Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, Archbishop
of Ranchi made the observation to Vatican Radio on Monday. “This man is the right
man at the moment,” said the cardinal who participated in two conclaves, including
the one that elected Pope Francis on March 13. Cardinal Toppo also noted that history’s
first Jesuit Pope is also a recognition of a religious order that has done so much
to spread the Catholic faith through its missionaries and martyrs. Regarding Pope
Francis’ desire for a poor Church for the poor does not however mean disregarding
the developed world. While stressing the Church’s preferential option for the poor,
Cardinal Toppo said faith has to be communicated to all, including the developed world.
