Sant'Egidio Community assisting Christian victims of assault in Pakistan
(March 13, 2013) The Rome-based Sant'Egidio community is helping the victims of
the assault on the the Christian village of Joseph Colony in Pakistan, said its communiqué
on Saturday. In recent days, some two hundred Christian homes were set on fire
on the outskirts of Lahore by a large violent crowd. On hearing the tragic situation
of the victims, Sant’ Egidio rushed to express its solidarity, the communiqué added.
Sadia Iqbal, head of the Community of Sant'Egidio said they distributed food, water
and clothes to the helpless victims. This is not the first time that such unfortunate
incidents occur in Pakistan A similar attack against a Christian neighborhood in Gojra,
took place in August 2009, when eight persons were killed during the attack arsonist.
