Protestors set fire to Egyptian security headquarters
(Vatican Radio) Egyptian protesters have set fire to two government buildings in the
northern city of Port Said. Meanwhile, protesters threw petrol bombs and stones at
police officers who responded by firing teargas on Monday, a day after five people,
including two policemen, were killed during demonstrations in the Suez Canal city.
Thousands
took to the streets for the funeral of three people killed in the overnight clashes
with police. At least 20 people were injured in Monday night's fighting.
On
Sunday, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, at news conference after meeting with
Egyptian Foreign Minister Kamel Amr said an end to the political violence in Egypt
is key to the country's progress.
Kerry added that the only way for Egypt to
thrive as a democracy is for government and opposition leaders to overcome their differences.
