(Vatican Radio) Kenyans are voting Monday in a National election. They will choose
a president, members of parliament and senators, county governors and members of 47
county assemblies. The poll was overshadowed by a pre-dawn attack on police in Mombasa
which killed several officers hours before Kenyans began casting votes. Joseph Kabiru,
is the media officer for the Horn and East of Africa with the UK based Catholic aid
agency Cafod.
Speaking from Turi an area in the Rift Valley in Kenya, he told
Lydia O’Kane that many people have been turning out to vote.
“At the station
where I voted there was a massive turnout”… However, there has been some challenges
with a metric voter registration machine which has largely not been able to function
and the Independent Electoral Land Boundaries Commission has now been forced to revert
to the manual register.” Official results are expected to be announced by March
11th by the electoral commission. Listen to Lydia O'Kane's interview with Joseph
