February 09, 2013: The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), celebrating
its Silver Jubilee at Vailankanni, has elected new office bearers. The current Plenary
Assembly elected Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai as the new President.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Bishop Varghese Chakkalakkal of Calicut who
were both re-elected as Vice-President and Secretary respectively for the consecutive
second term of office. It is very special and historical for Cardinal Oswald, who
has been elected for a second time as the chief among the Bishops of the Roman Latin
Church in India and he is also the present President of the CBCI, besides being the
Secretary General of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference (FABC).
