Ambassador from Azerbaijan comments on Pope's Diplomatic Corps speech
(Vatican Radio) Pope Benedict’s speech to the Diplomatic Corps highlighting his concerns
for different parts of the world, is continuing to generate reaction. One of those
present was the non resident Ambassador to the Holy See from Azerbaijan, Elchin Amir
Bayov.
“He (the Pope) tried to cover some most urgent problems that the international
community faces in terms of challenges to security…”, Ambassador Amir Bayov told
Lydia O’Kane. “…One of the messages I took for myself is that of course the necessity
to uphold peace and it was mentioned that peace is God’s gift, but also it’s a task
of every human being.”
The Ambassador also highlighted the fruitful ties the
Holy See and Azerbaijan enjoy on a cultural level.
“The most important event
in this regard that took place was an exhibition on Azerbaijan which was co-organised
by Azerbaijan and the Pontifical Council for Culture of the Holy See in the Braccio
di Carlo Magno in the Vatican Museums and it dealt with the rich and ancient culture
heritage of Azerbaijan.”
