(Vatican Radio) Venezuela's Supreme Court has ruled that there can indeed be a delay
in the Inauguration of re-elected President Hugo Chavez..Venezuela's oppostion coalition
gambled and lost. It appealed directly to the Supreme Court with the avowed aim and
focused hope that it would declare that an interim leader must be appointed, and another
Election held within thirty days. But...they were confounded and disappointed.
The Supreme Court has ruled that President Chavez can indeed be sworn in at a later
date. The Opposition is organizing nationwide protests. While the Goverment is
calling for a huge rally in the Capitol Caracas for today (Thursday) when a type of
celebration, somewhat short of an Official Inauguration is being held. Up to now,
none of the bulletins issued with scant details about Hugo Chavez health, has indicated
that he's showing significant signs of improvement on the road to recovery from a
cancer which he will not disclose. This is a time of uncertainty and anxiety for
Venezuela and its people. The near if not immediate future will determine their political
future. Listen to this report by James Blears
