Every mother rejoices at her son’s transformed life: Car. Piacenza
January 08, 2013: “Every mother, cannot but rejoice to see her child's life, not only
complete, but invested with a very special love of God that embraces and transforms
for eternity, said Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation
for Clergy, in an interview with Vatican Radio.
The Cardinal had written on
January 1, the feast of Mary, Mother of God, that ‘the mothers of priests and seminarians
deserve the thanks of the whole church for raising their sons in the faith and supporting
them in their vocations’. Cardinal Piacenza's letter was posted, in Italian, on the
website of the clergy congregation.
When asked about why life that is given
to the mother of the priest is 'unique and special', he said it is because of the
spiritual consolations, that derive from bringing in the womb the one who has become
a minister of Christ.
When asked how important is the role of the family for
developing vocations in children, he said that ‘in most cases the role of the family
is absolutely essential.’ He has also pointed out that the real "pastoral work", should
first be a genuine care of Christian families. The vocation is accepted in faith,
and families are the first places of the transmission of education and preserving
the faith.
