Pope Benedict: Episcopal appointments


Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday named Monsignor Stephen Jensen as the new Bishop of Prince George, BC, Canada. At the time of his appointment, Msgr. Jensen is Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vancouver. He succeeds Bishop Gerald Wiesner, O.M.I., who resigned upon having reached the age limit.

Also on Thursday, Pope Benedict appointed Monsignor David P. Talley as auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, GA, United States, assigning him the titular see of Lambesi. Msgr. Talley is the pastor of St. Brigid parish in Johns Creek in Georgia.

Msgr. Stephen Jensen

Bishop Stephen JENSEN was born in North Vancouver on 30 May 1954. He attended St. Thomas Seminary in Seattle, and St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario, Canada. He received his doctorate in Education from the University of Los Angeles.

He was ordained a priest 24 May 1980 for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Since his ordination, Monsignor Jensen has served as associate pastor at Corpus Christi parish in Vancouver (June 1980), chaplain at Simon Fraser University (September 1981); associate at Church of the Assumption in Powell River (August 1983); pastor of the Immaculate Conception, Vancouver (August 1984); pastor of St. Ann's, Abbotsford (July 1986); and pastor of the parish of Corpus Christi, Vancouver (June 1995). He has also served as a Member of the Board of Consultants (August 1990), Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese (September 1995), and episcopal Vicar for Education (February 1996).

Monsignor Jensen was named a Prelate of Honor in 1996, and since 2009 has served as Vicar General, Dean of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council and Diocesan Consultor for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.


Monsignor David P. Talley

Monsignor David P. TALLEY was born on 11 September 1950 in Columbus, Georgia, United States. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Auburn University and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Georgia. He received a Master of Divinity in Theology at the Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Saint Meinrad, Indiana.

He was ordained a priest on 3 June 1989 for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Since his ordination, Monsignor Talley has held the following positions: associate at Saint Jude the Apostle Parish in Sandy Springs (1989-1993); Director of Priestly Vocations (1998-2001); Chancellor (1999-2001); Administrator of Saint Matthew parish in Tyrone (2001); Judicial Vicar (2001-2003); pastor of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Alpharetta (2003-2006); assistant pastor of Saint Anne, Columbus (2006-2007); pastor of Saint John Neumann, Lilburn (2007-2011); and pastor of Saint Brigid, Johns Creek (2011-present).

He obtained a License (1995) and a Doctorate (1997) in Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

On 17 December 2000 he was appointed Prelate of Honor of His Holiness.
