(Vatican Radio) United States President Barack Obama says he has had a constructive
meeting on Friday with Congressional leaders over budget negotiations. The White House
talks have not reached a deal averting the so-called “fiscal cliff”, the automatic
tax rises and spending cuts scheduled to start on January 1st. ``I'm optimistic
we may still be able to reach an agreement that can pass both houses in time,'' Obama
said, adding the American public is ``not going to have any patience for a politically
self-inflicted wound to our economy. Not right now.''
