An interview with Fr. Paulo Molinari, SJ on St. Kateri Welcome to our new
program on the Year of Faith, THE FAITHFUL WITNESS, a series on the lives of Inspiring
People and Witnesses of faith in the Catholic Church from around the world. These
holy people lived their ordinary lives in extraordinary ways. They are examples of
great holiness and virtue, and they invite us to follow their paths to holiness. Their
unique stories inspire us to be rooted in our faith. God calls each one of us today
to inspire our brothers and sisters and to be witnesses of our faith. Last week
we listened to Jesuit Father Paolo Molinari speaking about the Faithful witness
of a young Native American maiden called Kateri Tekakwitha. She is one of the seven
persons canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on 21st October 2012 in St. Peter’s
square in the Vatican. She is the first Native American woman to be venerated in
the Roman Catholic Church. Her life and works help us to look at our lives from God’s
perspective especially now when we are celebrating the Year of Faith. Today Father
Molinari explains to us the process that went into the canonization of that young
Native American maiden Kateri Tekakwitha. He has been the Postulator for the canonization
of Tekakwitha, working about half a century for this cause. Father Moliari’s first
hand experiences are truly inspirational. Listen:
Q. Hello Father,
you have been telling us about Kateri Tekakwitha. How did you manage the process of
her canonization since she lived a few centuries ago? Q. So. You got so much material
from the historical documents that were existing? Q. It looks like a few years
after her death, there was veneration, etc, but then for two centuries nothing happened.
Why? Q. Now we come to the present day when you have taken over the cause after
the death of your predecessor, and then what happened? How did you proceed? That
was Jesuit Father Paulo Molinari, postulator for the cause of the canonization of
Kateri Tekakwitha. You have been listening to THE FAITHFUL WITNESS, a special
weekly series based on the lives of Inspiring People and Witnesses of faith in the
Catholic Church from around the world, brought to you by Vatican Radio’s English Service
for South Asia.By P.J. Joseph SJ FRIDAY, 28 DECEMBER 2012
