(Vatican Radio) US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, has concluded
a top level Border Security meeting in Mexico. Napolitano met with Mexico's Tourism
Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu, to bolster and boost the bi-lateral billion dollar
industry which provides thousands of jobs. But security was the main focus on this
trip. Mexico's bloody narcotics war, is closing in on its seventh year, and beginning
to spill over on to US soil in the Border States. So Napolitano held talks with
the powerful and influential Majority Leader of Mexico's Chamber of Deputies Manlio
Fabio Beltrones. The issue started as a serious problem and has worsened into a hemispheric
crisis. More than 60,000 people have already perished at the hands of the drug cartels.
Mexico has also been appealing to legislators in Washington to re-impose the ten year
assault weapons ban which lapsed in 2004, but has never been renewed. Illegal gun
running especially semi automatic assault rifle, have been arming organized crime
south of the Border to the teeth with horrendous consequences.
