December 15, 2012: The UN’s Global Consolidated Humanitarian Appeal for 2013 was launched
on Friday in Rome by the United Nation’s World Food Programme, the UN Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Caritas Internationalis. It focuses on 16
humanitarian crises around the world including Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo,
and the Sahel. Syria has also been added to next year’s list.
It’s an “appeal
that brings together all the needs of the various UN agencies working in the field
on the humanitarian front …it will concern 51 million people in need and for an amount
of 8.5 billion dollars. “ says the Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, Michel
Roy.
He also told Lydia O’Kane that despite humanitarian assistance being in
countries affected by conflict, globally speaking crises as a result of natural disasters,
such as flooding and drought.
