Gregorian University conference focuses on 'Mission'

(Vatican Radio) The Faculty of Missiology at Rome’s Pontifical Gregorian University is this year celebrating the eightieth anniversary of its founding, which is associated in many ways to the celebrations of 50 years of the Church since the Second Vatican Council. As part of these events the Faculty organized a three-day international study conference focused on the Mission, Church and Theology a half-century on from the Second Vatican Council, which concluded on Friday. The high point on Friday featured a concluding lectio magistralis by His Eminence Cardinal Karl Josef Becker, S.J. on “Theology of Religions: Religions in the order of salvation - the task of theology of religions and its specific objective in Catholic circles.” Before Cardinal Becker’s lecture, Harvard University’s Professor Harvey Cox presented his view on the book, Catholic Engagement with World Religions: A Comprehensive Study, in dialogue with its two editors: Cardinal Becker and Prof. Ilaria Morali of the Gregorian’s Faculty of Missiology. “I think it’s a fantastic contribution to a developing field, what we call the ‘theology of religion’,” he said, speaking with Christopher Altieri. “It’s an enormous step towards renewing and furthering this conversation.” Listen to the complete interview of Professor Harvey Cox with Christopher Altieri: RealAudioMP3
