Media center marks 20 years with publishers' meet

November 29, 2012: A Catholic media and communication center in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, is celebrating 20 years of multimedia production from Thursday with a host of programs including a national meeting of publishers.

The Salesian-run Tej-Prasarini (Light-spreader) based in Mumbai collaborates with the Catholic Bishops Conference of India's office of Social Communications in organizing the national meeting of Catholic publishers.

A 4-day book and media fair of Tej Prasarini till Dec. 2 would also be organized to mark the event. The fair is expected to bring together some 20 leading publishers and media houses, both in print and digital, said Father Joaquim Fernandes, event coordinator and Tej- Prasarani director.

The celebrations began with concelebrated Eucharist in the Don Bosco crypt at Matunga Marian shrine. It was followed by the inauguration of the fair by journalist and author Naresh Fernandes.

Besides the national meeting of publishers, the day is also scheduled to have competition for students in art & craft, phonetic classes, talent parade and magic shows.

The event would also see day-long exhibitions along with discussions toward joint-ventures for collaborative productions and language editions.

A member of the World Association of Catholic Communication (Signis India) and Indian Catholic Press Association, Tej-Prasarini (Light-Spreader) is a Don Bosco institute, which began in 1992 as a modest audio-cassette initiative in response to the catechetical needs of a rural Christian population in Pune. In 1993, it was re-located at the Salesian Provincial House at Matunga in Mumbai.
