Mexicans charged in CIA assault case

(Vatican Radio) Mexico's Attorney General's Office announces that 14 Mexican Federal Police Officers have been charged with attempting to murder Two CIA Agents and a Mexican Marine Captain.

The statement issued by the Attorney General doesn't link the ambush and shooting to a drug cartel. But the Officers involved were not wearing Police uniforms, they were driving non Police vehicles, and the AK47 semi automatic assault rifles they were firing, were NOT issued by the Force. Those charged were already in custody.

The two CIA Agents were wounded in the August attack, on the Mexico City to Cuernavaca Highway. The Mexican Marine Officer was unhurt. That they survived is largely due to the US Embassy vehicle which was armour plated, and withstood the majority of 152 bullet impacts from short range. Although the vehicle was clearly marked with diplomatic licence plates, it was ambushed, pursued and repeatedly attacked.

Since then, the Mexican Police, the Attorney General's Office and the US Embassy have coordinated the investigation.
