(Vatican Radio) The World Food Programme is helping to feed thousands of people in
Haiti who have lost their homes and livelihoods due to Hurricane Sandy. WFP is urgently
appealing for more than $20 million to support more than 425,000 people in the country,
particularly the most vulnerable.
“It's an emergency food distribution operation,”
explained Spokesperson Elisabeth Byrs This includes special nutritional need of over
100,000 pregnant women and new mothers and also children under five."
The agency
says the impact of the hurricane and a recent drought is still being felt in the poor
Caribbean country which suffered from an earthquake in 2010.
