Synod establishes the Ordinary Council of the General Secretariat
October 20, 2012: 18th General Congregation of the XIII Synod of Bishops,
which began on Saturday morning had the first voting of the Ordinary Council of the
General Secretariat for the presentation of the Scheme of the message and the discussion
on the message. At the opening of the General Congregation took place on the first
ballot in electronic form for the election of 12 members of the XIII Ordinary Council
of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops (3 Members for Continents of Europe,
Africa, America and Asia-Oceania).
There were 250 fathers at this General
Congregation. At the end of the Congregation of the Synod Fathers went to the Clementine
Hall of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican to attend the presentation of the Ratzinger
Prize 2012.
The Ordinary Council of the General Secretariat of the Synod of
Bishops is established at the end of each Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of
Bishops. It consists of 15 members, 12 of whom are elected by the synod, taking into
account the representation of bishops from around the world, three are designated
by the Roman Pontiff.
