Cardinal Wuerl: Society suffers from "tsunami of secular influence"

One of the most influential Synod Fathers is the relator-general, Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. In his speech Monday to the XIII Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the "New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith" on Monday, the Cardinal blamed a “tsunami of secular influence” for the urgent need to re-evanglize the West.
“It really has taken away from our whole Western world those basic indications of who we are: our common good, marriage, family, right and wrong,” he later told Vatican Radio.
“What we need to do is start re-building all over this understanding of what is true in human nature: How are we truly made in the image and likeness of God? How do we relate to one another? How is it that family and marriage are bedrocks of society? We have always understood that. It’s been part of the western culture. It has been a part of world culture for eons. We simply have to once again re-claim our heritage.”
