Pope’s delegates for celebrations in Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Ukraine
(September 01, 2012) Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday delegated English Cardinal Cormac
Murphy-O’Connor, retired Archbishop of Westminster as his special representative to
the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of Dhaka Archdiocese in Bangladesh as well
as 400 years of the presence of the Catholic faith in that part of South Asia. The
celebrations are scheduled for Nov. 9 and 10 this year. At the same time, Pope Benedict
also nominated two other prelates as his personal envoys for Church celebrations in
Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Dean of the College of Cardinals,
is the papal representative for the dedication of the Cathedral in the Karaganda in
Kazakhstan, on September 9. Meanwhile Slovak Cardinal Jozef Tomko, former Prefect
of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples is the papal representative
to the celebrations of 600 years of the creation of the Latin-rite Archdiocese of
Leopoli, in Lviv, Ukraine, on September 8. Both cardinals are heading a delegation
each to the respective occasions.
