Haiti recovers from Tropical Storm Isaac

Tropical storm Isaac hit Haiti over the weekend, killing at least six people including an eight-year-old girl. The Caribbean nation has still not recovered from the January 2010 earthquake which killed tens of thousands of people, and left hundreds of thousands of displaced people in camps.

"We have evacuated close to 14,000 people in several temporary shelters,” said Vanessa Huguenin, spokeswoman for the UN Humanitarian Affairs Office. “People are receiving assistance in the camps, food distribution, potable water, but even now that the storm has passed we still need to be able to assist people. Some people have taken refuge or shelter in schools. The school is supposed to resume in September so we need to work to be sure that people can return.”
